GW 17 â scoring in 30 straight, MjĂ€llby winless in eight
AIK sit fifth in Allsvenskan and VĂ€sterĂ„s sixth. Both create less and concede more than Brommapojkarna, who sit twelfth. This is not a technicality, it is subtraction: AIK create 1.24 expected goals per game and concede 1.62, VĂ€sterĂ„s 1.11 against 1.61. Brommapojkarna's balance is 1.17 against 1.47. Only Ărgryte, Degerfors and Halmstad have a worse chance balance than the two teams currently sitting fifth and sixth. Gameweek 17 gives both of them a chance to confirm that efficiency is a skill, or to start paying it back.
Friday opener in BorÄs: two straight wins against a team living above its numbers
The round opens at BorĂ„s Arena, where Elfsborg host VĂ€sterĂ„s. Elfsborg arrive on two straight wins and having scored in three consecutive games, last blanked by Gais in July. The table separates them by a single point in the visitors' favour, 25 to 24, but the expected points column reverses the picture: Elfsborg should have 21.8 and VĂ€sterĂ„s 19.2. Elfsborg rank fourth in the league for first touch on attacking corners at 48 per cent against VĂ€sterĂ„s's 31, and Arber Zeneli shares top spot in xT, the threat a player creates with on-ball actions, at 0.50 per game. In goal stands Isak Pettersson, the league's best goalkeeper by goals prevented at 4.5 across the season. VĂ€sterĂ„s have their own reason for optimism in Ismet Lushaku, second in assists per game at 0.59, and the team won its most recent match after the 0â6 defeat to DjurgĂ„rden on 3 August. Elfsborg hold five wins and two draws in the league meetings since 1978.
Strandvallen: scoring in 30 straight against eight without a win
Sirius have 42 points, are unbeaten in 21 matches since a 2â8 loss to DjurgĂ„rden in September 2025, and have scored in 30 consecutive games. The last time they failed to score was against IFK Göteborg in July 2025. They also top both the league's xG per game (2.04) and its defensive numbers (1.03 xGA per game), which makes the lead hard to dismiss as variance. That Sirius simultaneously sit some ten points above their expected haul is efficiency on top of the best underlying football in the league, not instead of it. Robbie Ure leads the xG chart at 0.63 per game. MjĂ€llby are the opposite: 17 points, eight games without a win since beating Degerfors 4â1 in May, two straight defeats, and 31 per cent of attacks from their own third reaching the final third, the lowest figure in the league alongside Kalmar. That the same club went 22 games unbeaten last season makes the figure more uncomfortable, not less. Elliot Stroud ranks fourth in xT at 0.49. History still favours the hosts, who lead 8â2 in 13 meetings since 2020 at an average of 3.4 goals.
The derby at 3Arena: the model against the table
DjurgĂ„rden and AIK meet for the 133rd time, with AIK ahead on 54 wins from the 132 previous meetings. The hosts have 26 points from 15 games, one fewer than most, and an expected points total of 25.5. Few teams in the league match their model this precisely. DjurgĂ„rden share top spot for buildup in Allsvenskan with Ărgryte (0.37) and generate the most threat from corners (0.23 expected goals per game). Kristian Lien is second in xG at 0.61 and Bo Hegland leads the assist chart at 0.80 per game. AIK have 25 points where the model gives 17.1, the second largest overperformance in the league after Sirius. The difference is that Sirius overperform on top of the best football in the division and AIK on top of a negative chance balance. Much of the explanation stands in goal: Kristoffer Nordfeldt ranks second in the league for xG saved at 0.49 per game and fourth in goals prevented. AIK also play the most long balls in the league, 36 per game, level with Malmö. Ăron Csongvai contributes 0.38 xT and 432 metres of progressive passing per game from centre back, and Bersant Celina has three career goals against DjurgĂ„rden. At the other end, Jacob Rinne has six clean sheets. This is the fixture where the question gets its clearest test: can a league position be built on margins and a goalkeeper in form?
Grimsta and Stora Valla: four teams who should have more
At Grimsta, Brommapojkarna, winless in seven but scoring in nine straight, host an Ărgryte side with the league's lowest field tilt (0.36, the share of actions in the final third) and the most goals conceded of anyone at 37. The two have 18 and 13 points against expected totals of 21.8 and 18.3. Brommapojkarna also record the fewest ball wins in the attacking half in the league (21 per game) and the weakest threat from set pieces. Mads Kristian Hansen is sixth in assists at 0.45 per game, and Leo Cavallius makes the most saves in the league at 4.2 per game, which says something about the kind of matches involved. At Stora Valla, Degerfors host IFK Göteborg. The home side have the league's lowest xG per game (0.85) and its weakest chance creation (0.02 expected goals per attack reaching the final third). Göteborg arrive on two straight wins, 19 points against an expected 24.8, and Tobias Heintz third in xT at 0.49. The visitors have won the last five meetings between the sides and lead 36â14 across 59 matches since 1940.
Sunday at 16.30: the pressing machine against 22 straight scoring games
At Gamla Ullevi, the league's most extreme pressing side meets its most persistent scorer. GAIS have the best counterpress in Allsvenskan at 0.52 expected goals within eight seconds of winning the ball, the most ball wins in the attacking half (40 per game) and the best first touch on defensive corners (0.70). They still sit on 23 points where the model gives 27.7, the largest underperformance in the top half. Samuel Salter is fifth in xG at 0.54 and receives more threat than anyone in the league. Malmö FF have scored in 22 consecutive games, last blanked by DjurgĂ„rden in September 2025, and have in Malte Frejd PĂ„lsson the league's most progressive defender in both carrying (182 metres per game) and passing (617). Malmö lead 46â15 across 88 meetings since 1931 and have won the last two. In Kalmar, Hammarby visit unbeaten in five, with the league's highest field tilt (0.74), the most box entries (20 per game) and the best throw-in control (0.72). Nahir Besara leads the shot assist chart at 3.2 per game and Victor Eriksson tops both interceptions and aerials. Kalmar have 18 points against an expected 23.2 and in Charles Sagoe Jr a third-placed creator at 0.54 assists per game. The hosts lead the all-time record 25â15 across 59 meetings, but Hammarby have won the last three encounters.
Monday close: HĂ€cken against the league's weakest defence
HĂ€cken have 25 points and are three games without a win. Their last victory came against Halmstad, 2â0 on 19 July. The visitors have seven points, seven games without a win, two straight defeats and the league's worst numbers in both defence (2.29 expected goals conceded per game) and counterpressing (0.115). Tim Rönning leads the league in xG saved at 0.60 per game and in claims at 6.1, figures that describe a goalkeeper holding a team up rather than a team keeping opponents out. HĂ€cken have Amor Layouni, joint leader in xT at 0.50 and fourth in assists, and Julius Lindberg seventh in shot assists. HĂ€cken lead the head-to-head 20â14 at an average of 3.2 goals.
AIK and VÀsterÄs have 50 points between them and a chance balance that belongs in a relegation fight. Either the two of them have understood something the model does not measure, or the bill simply has not arrived yet. Gameweek 17 will not settle the question, but it will hint at which answer is cheaper to believe.
